When the rains come down spirits soar high in celebration. Song & dance mark the gaiety of the Teej Festival celebrated in Jaipur.
The Pink City, Jaipur had a magical charm that encompasses all the colours and enchantment of the wonderland that is Rajasthan.
Teej is held every year during the Hindu month of Shravan (August) and marks the advent of the monsoons. The onset of monsoons is a time to celebrate as the rains bring water to the parched land. The fair is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and commemorates the day when she was united with Lord Shiva.
Young girls, newly wedded girls and old women can be seen attired in flashy traditional costumes and ornaments. Basically a women's festival, it is interesting to watch them enjoying in groups all over the city and in the colourful bazaars. They can be seen applying henna to decorate their hands and singing songs of love and about the onset of rainy season. Flower bedecked swings are hung from trees almost all over Jaipur and the vicinity.
The Royal procession take place for two consecutive days comprising of old palanquins, chariots, decorated bullock carts, elephants & camels begins, different bands plays the traditional Rajasthani tunes, dancing & stingingly people in traditional colourful costumes from the imposing City Palace, winding its way through Tripolia Bazaar and Chhoti Chaupar.
Teej Festival Package
Day 01: Jaipur:
You will be received by our representative at Airport/Railway Station and transferred to hotel. We take daylong sightseeing tour of the city which includes the visit to Hawamahal, City Palace Museum, Observatory and Amber Fort. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Jaipur:
In the afternoon there is a procession led by the royal attendants of City Palace through the city streets. For a close look of the procession we climb up to the shops of Tripoliya Bazaar. Folk musicians and dancers add to the colour of the fair. In the evening we enjoy the especially designed Rajasthani program comprising of folk music & dances, puppet & magic shows etc. and a traditional Rajasthani dinner in an ethnic village. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03: Jaipur:
After breakfast you will be transferred to airport/railway station to continue onwards/return journey.
